Office Cleaning

A mundane task to be sure, but a reputable and reliable office cleaning service can make the difference in how your business does business. Office cleaning services can make or break your business, literally. You need to be able to trust your office cleaners since your business secrets can be left wide open while they are carrying out the office cleaning. I used to run an office cleaning business and you would be surprised at the things some people leave out on their desks or casually throw away without shredding.

The first step to securing an office cleaner service is to determine what exactly you need or want done:

  • Do you need just the common areas and bathrooms cleaned?
  • Do you want the offices and reception areas cleaned?
  • Do you want the executive offices cleaned?
  • How often do you want the office cleaners to come in?

When you have determined the very basics than you will want to start shopping for an office cleaner business.

Start to ask around. Get referrals from other businesses you have a working relationship with. If you happen to be in a spotlessly clean office one day, inquire as to who does their cleaning. After you have narrowed your search down to the top 3 or 4 cleaners, have them give you an estimate and references. Check them! Ask about the staff. Ask about liability insurance and the backgrounds of their employees.

When you decide to hire a cleaning service, ask about length of contract and theft control measures. Get the names and be introduced to those who will be cleaning. If keys need to be given out, ask about security measures and let them know about any alarms, etc.

Don't assume just because someone works as an office cleaner that they won't know a spreadsheet from a dryer sheet. Make sure all staff are made aware of the fact that you will be having a cleaning service come in and when. Advise them to keep personal and company information and material locked in their desks. If you don't already use a shredder, you should now. If you don't want things moved on a desk to be cleaned, let the office cleaners know that.

Periodically review the level of cleanliness and the work done, and call the owner or manager to tell them anything you are not happy with. Maintain good exterior lighting to improve the safety of your late working staff and your office cleaners.
